The growth of violent extremism - and the devastating impact of groups espousing violent ideologies – is not only setting in motion a dramatic reversal of development gains already made, but threatening to stunt prospects of development for decades to come. As a result of the activities of Al Shabaab for example, there has been an estimated 25 percent drop in tourism in Kenya, a sector that provides a vital source of jobs and income for the country.
